The conversation will feature local leaders on the Thai-Myanmar border, renowned academic researchers, and victim service providers. The panel will explore the realities of scam compounds, government engagement, the repatriation process, and the challenges facing survivors.

Monica Kyamazima is the Country Director of Willow International (Everfree – Uganda), a leading non-profit dedicated to combating human trafficking and supporting survivors. With a background in law and extensive experience in human rights advocacy, Monica has developed and implemented innovative programs that empower survivors to reclaim their lives. Her strategic leadership has expanded Willow International’s reach and impact, ensuring comprehensive care for vulnerable communities. Monica is a passionate advocate, raising awareness and forging partnerships to drive systemic change. Committed to justice and dignity for all, she believes in collective action to end exploitation and create a world free from trafficking.
Jacob Sims is a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University’s Asia Center and an advisor to various government agencies, think tanks, and NGOs working to address transnational crime, rights, and security issues in Southeast Asia. His analysis and commentary feature regularly in global media outlets, thought leadership forums, and a monthly column at The Diplomat.

Mechelle B.J. Moore is an expert in anti-human trafficking and transnational crime, with a focus on forced criminality, cyber slavery, and online scams in the Asia Pacific region. As CEO of Global Alms Incorporated, she leads initiatives in trauma-informed care and emergency support for trafficking and gender-based violence survivors. Mechelle is the founder of Yes She Matters, a survivor-led program providing frontline assistance and advocacy. With over 15 years’ experience in child protection and trauma response, she has trained law enforcement, military, and international delegations on dismantling trafficking networks. At Charles Sturt University, Mechelle conducts research on gender-based violence and organised crime, bridging academic insight with practical solutions to inform regional policy. Her work has been featured by global media, including Deutsche Welle, CNN, and the documentary Trafficked to Australia, spotlighting her commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and advancing justice across complex, transnational issues.
